In early 2013, after a competitive request for proposals, the California Energy Commission (CEC) awarded grant funding of $3.7M to AeroVironment, Inc. (AV) to supply and install Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE), also called charging stations, at the residences of qualifying electric vehicle buyers California-wide. The primary goal of the project was to expand electric vehicle adoption to further Governor Jerry Brown’s Executive Order, which directs the state government to support and facilitate the rapid commercialization of zero-emission vehicles (ZEV) in California, with a target of 1.5 million ZEVs on California roads by 2025. The order also requires that sufficient infrastructure be installed in the state to support 1 million ZEVs by 2020.

MONROVIA, Calif., May 19, 2015 – AeroVironment, Inc. (NASDAQ:AVAV) today announced the portable TurboCord™ Dual (120V/240V) charger will come standard with the 2016 Volvo XC90 T8 Twin Engine, which will debut later this year. The Volvo XC90 T8 Twin Engine is the world’s first seven passenger plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV).
“Volvo Cars has made a strong, customer-focused statement about the direction EV charging is taking,” said Ken Karklin, vice president and general manager of AeroVironment’s Efficient Energy Systems business segment. “Importantly, TurboCord delivers the power, portability and convenience that potential EV buyers have been waiting for.”

Federal Tax Credit for Electric and Plug-in Hybrids Up To $7500

Electric vehicles (EVs) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) purchased in or after 2010 may be eligible for a federal income tax credit of up to $7,500. The credit amount will vary based on the capacity of the battery used to fuel the vehicle. Find out if your model qualifies & how much you can save with this credit on EV models and on PHEV models. You can use Form 8936 to figure your credit for qualified EVs or PHEVs you placed in service during your tax year.
